How it Works

Getting your library involved in The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest™ is as easy as 1-2-3-4!

Step #1 – Enroll your library

1) Registering your school library or public library is easy.  Simply fill out the Library Registration form and submit it.  If you’re part of a large library system, each branch will need to register individually.

2) After your registration has been verified, you will receive a confirmation email with links to all the resources you’ll need to easily administer the contest at your library.

Step #2 – Promote the contest

1)  Check out the ready-made promotional materials, tips and tools on the Librarian Resources page.

2)  Print off the main promotional flyer and display it in your teen or kids section along with a selection of participating books from your collection.

3) Print off the list of participating books from the Librarian Resources page and check off the books you have in your collection.  Post this near your Great Scavenger Hunt Contest display or keep on your reference desk so readers can quickly choose books to check out.

4) Put links to The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest on the computers in your teen/kids section so readers can easily access the trivia challenges to fill out.

Step #3 – Turn your readers into hunters

1)  To participate, your readers (called hunters) will look at the list of participating books in your collection and choose one that looks interesting. The program was designed primarily for readers age 8 to 19, with a maximum eligible age of 19.

2) The hunter reads the book, prints out and completes the associated trivia challenge, and turns it in to you to check.  (Hunters may complete new trivia challenges as often as they would like.  The more, the merrier!)

3) You’ll check the trivia challenge against the answer key (more on this in your confirmation email).  A hunter must get at least 8 out of 10 answers correct to be eligible for the monthly contest.

4) When a hunter gets at least 8 answers correct, you will enter them in the contest via the online contest entry form.  (Details on this are also in your confirmation email.)

Step #4 – Enjoy the prizes

1)  Every month, I will pick one lucky hunter as the winner.

2)  Winning hunters will receive a $50 gift card to the bookstore of their choice to use for whatever their heart desires.

3) The host library will receive a prize tote filled with books you get to choose from an extensive list of scavenger hunt titles.  I’ll contact you with the list of books to choose from when you’re announced as the winner.

4) Winners will be announced on the site and in the monthly update flyers for the contest.  (For safety reasons, only the winning hunter’s first name and first initial of the last name will be announced.  No other identifying information will be announced on the site.)

5) The hunter’s gift card and the prize tote will both be sent to you as host librarian so you can make handing out the prize an event you can publicize in your library newsletter if you wish.

6) PLUS… at the end of the year, I’ll put every hunter into an extra special drawing.  The grand prize hunter and host library will receive awesome year-end prizes.
