Author Participation

AUTHORS:   Thank you for your interest in the national Great Scavenger Hunt Contest™ reading program for kids and teens!

More than 900 school and public libraries across the U.S. and Canada participate in this free, year-round reading program designed to encourage a life-long love of reading for fun. Since its founding in 2009 by author Kay Cassidy, the Hunt has been featured in VOYA, School Library Journal Teen, and Publisher's Weekly Children's Bookshelf. It has also been promoted by librarians at state conferences across the country as a cool way to keep kids coming back to the library for more in this time of dwindling budgets and staff.

Currently, more than 300 YA and middle grades authors participate in the program, including many New York Times bestselling authors and winners or finalists of the Newbery Medal, Printz Award, National Book Award, and Edgar Award.

Participating YA and middle grades/tween books must have broad distribution on their own merits. The goal is to keep The Great Scavenger Hunt Contest™ populated with books already on the shelves of many participating libraries and new releases likely to be purchased by those libraries through traditional buying channels.

To participate, YA and middle grades authors must meet one of two basic criteria:

1) The participating book must show a distribution of at least 100 in Worldcat.org

-or-

2) The book must be within the first 12 months of release from a non-subsidy, non-vanity publisher listed in Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market

To participate, please contact Kay using the form below. Cheers to you for supporting libraries!
