The Cinderella Society ARC giveaway!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend! And for those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving, I hope it was wonderful and your leftovers are still scrumptious. :-)

If you’ve been reading the blog or chatting with me on Twitter (@KayCassidy), you know that the second book in the Cinderella Society series is due to my editor next week. As I’m nearing the home stretch on book 2, I’ve been pausing to wonder what makes someone pick up a book in the first place. Is it the cover, the title, the genre, the blurb, the topics or issues it covers, the recommendations of others, a book trailer or ad, what you know of the author… or other things entirely?

For me, it’s a combination of those things. And it differs from book to book. I thought it would be interesting to do a giveaway for The Cinderella Society related to the mystery of what makes us want to read the books we’re eyeing.

So for all you out there who want to read The Cinderella Society:

What is it about The Cinderella Society that makes you want to read it… and, most importantly, why? What is it about that element (or elements) of TCS that gets you excited?

Every comment gets you an entry into the contest. The winner of the ARC will be announced next week. (Be sure to check out the blurb on the TCS page for full details about the book!)

    Hi Kay!

I haven’t been on your blog in FOREVER! I feel so guilty…

So, to answer your question – I LOVE fairy tales, adore them something awful. And well, when you take something otherworldly and put it in modern life.. I’m just so terribly drawn to those types of books. Even if they are a bit more chick-litish sometimes.

So, not only does the book sound AMAZING, but you are amazing and I want to read it and cheer ya on to write more. :)

Amazing plot + Beautiful Cover = I have to read this book…
I want to read TCS because it has everything I want in a book: different plot, an original idea and something about real life, something fresh…
And like I said, the cover is just lovely ;)

The thing about The Cinderella Society that makes me want to read it is the premise and the originality of it. Besides the great reviews I have read about the book, I want to read it because I think the book is inspirational. Inspirational books always intrigue me because there’s always a message with them. I think messages within books are an amazing addition to a great book already. Most importantly, I want to find out what that message IS in The Cinderella Society.

I enjoy Cinderella Stories and i think this is an interesting twist on that. I also think it’s interesting that even though this seemingly good society isn’t all it’s cracked up about. I cant wait to read Cinderella Society!

I love the story behind it. Jess gets what she thinks that she has wanted but has to learn the leason to be careful what you wish for. I imagine she will have to grow and find that she can take part in trying to destroy the evil. I guess that is also why I want to read it. I want to see how she handles being a part of this new society, how deals with all the things she learns along the way. I also love the cover.

Well, obviously I notice the cover first! And the cover of The Cinderella Society is beautiful!
Then I read the blurb, and hopefully (and mostly) it is just as good as the cover :)

  • 7. Bookworm/Claire  |  November 28th, 2009 at 8:19 pm

I am DYING to read TCS because of the adorable cover, and the fact that it sounds super fun, cute, and unique. Plus, I love books with girl-power! I’m a big fan of books on the lighter side and of redone fairytales, too. TCS=my ideal book!

  • 8. Mariah  |  November 28th, 2009 at 8:28 pm

I really want to read TCS because of the awesome premise. From the blurb it sounds like a great girl empowerment book, and what girl does not want to be a part of a Cinderella Society! Also the cover is gorgeous and just draws me in even more!

I teach 7th grade and what she faces in the book are what my girls face. Should they give up a part of who they are to be popular or should they stay true to themselves? And if they do decide to do what is “unpopular” how do they deal with the possible consciquences of that? I think it’s possibly a book that might help some girls with that delimma – and trust me – they need all the help they can get.

  • 10. Dani.  |  November 28th, 2009 at 11:13 pm

Why do I want to read The Cinderella Society you ask, well lets see…

    1. The cover is adorable! I am in love with it.
    2. It sounds like so much fun to read.
    3. Anything with secret socieities and/or top secret things are awesome, and this book has both!
    4. The nemesis is called “The Wickeds,” too cool.
    5. The MC has to make a pretty hard choice that I know will thoroughly entertain me.
*Theres more too, but I think you got the idea:)

Is the giveaway open internationally? :)

I would love to read The Cinderella Society because I’m really interested in the plot! It’s a combination of spy stuff, sisterhood, and a touch of fairy tale! (And I love Cinderella! :D )

  • 12. bunnyb  |  November 29th, 2009 at 5:37 am

I was attracted to this title as I LOVE fairytales and Cinderella’s my most fave Disney princess. After reading the plot of this story, I want to read it even more because I like the ‘Mean Girls’ type of storyline :) Thank you!

  • 13. Andrea  |  November 29th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

“What’s a girl to do when the glass slipper fits, but she doesn’t want to wear it anymore?”

Honestly, it was that right there that made me want to read it. Intriguing!

  • 14. Jen Petro-Roy  |  November 29th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

For me, it’s a combination of plot, and the fact that you’re moving within the fairytale plot to create something unique. Those subtle variations really create interest for me :)

  • 15. Denise  |  November 29th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

What makes me want to read The Cinderella society is the title because who doesn’t want to read a book that has Cinderella in it, but the whole idea of reading about a society also gets me really excited
the cover is really cute so that just makes me want to read it :)

  • 16. Ita  |  November 29th, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I want to read TCS first and foremost because I’ve gotten to be a huge fan of your blog. Also the cover is really cool. It may be unfortunate, but I only pick up a book if a cover catches my eye than I read the back of the book and the inside cover. I know if I’d never heard of your book and just saw it at my library I would definetly pick it up.

  • 17. Audrey/brizmus  |  November 29th, 2009 at 2:59 pm

It’s hard to say why I want to read the Cinderella Society. I guess firstly because I ADORE the story of Cinderella, and so anything that has anything even remotely to do with it is on my wishlist. And then there’s the fact that the cover is so amazingly beautiful! It makes it seem like the book is also going to be beautiful. The glass slipper combined with the title of the book makes me super curious to know what it’s all about.
    Yay I can’t wait!

  • 18. Andrea  |  November 29th, 2009 at 10:35 pm

Well, the first thing that grabs me is the title. I love fairy tales, so any time I see a title with a familiar fairy tale reference, I want to know more.

And then I love the premise–the good girls of the world fighting the mean girls! (and the names–the Cindys vs the Wickeds!!).

And if you’re not grabbed yet, then I love this line “What’s a girl to do when the glass slipper fits, but she doesn’t want to wear it anymore?”

    So great!

I am eager to read TCS for several reasons.

    1. The synopsis! It sounds soooo good.
    2. I’m attracted to the cover!
    3. I’ve heard some authors raving about TCS so I’m super excited! =D
    4. It’s YA! I read all kinds of YA!

  • 20. Mrs. V  |  November 30th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I can’t wait to read this book for a number of reasons. As you said, usually it is a combination. A lot of the books I want to read are ones that I hear about via blogs. That was my first introduction to your book in this case. The more I hear about it, the more I want to read it. I love the cover, I have always loved Cinderella stories, and I love that the theme is for teens to be the best they can be. Your blogs demonstrate how this is essential for you and one of your focuses. I can’t wait to see how it will come out in your novel. I imagine that it will be a great addition to my classroom library.

Hi Kay! I love this question and have pondered it myself so I have to respond here. :)

If I do not have any info on a book it is the cover that catches me first. I admit to being a huge cover snob!

In the case of The Cinderella Society the cover pops! Its perfect for the story and it would have caught my eye in a store.

i want to see Cinderella and Fairy tale land shook up a bit. Move from weak princesses to strong girls who find themselves by being who they are.

  • 23. Cindy S.  |  December 1st, 2009 at 10:43 pm

I have wanted to read this book since the moment I have heard about it. I love fairy tales books but this book is not just a fairy tale book but a story with a strong heroine who makes mistakes but she learns from them and put others ahead of herself. Everyone who I know who has read this book tell me how amazing it is and I can’t not wait for this one.

  • 24. Kay  |  December 1st, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Thanks for all the great comments, you guys! And for the kind words about The Cinderella Society. I think it’s so interesting how each of us is drawn to books for different reasons – visual, emotional, and otherwise. Just one of the many awesome things about books in general. :-)

Winner to be announced later this week!
