A question about swag… and your chance to win some!

So I was just tweeting about different options for swag and wondering what people’s favorite kinds of swag are. The responses were amazing! Thank you!!!

I thought I would list all the ideas here and let people chime in with a comment about their favorites from the list, other ideas, and cool things they’ve seen authors give away. That way it’ll all be in one spot!

Since there are so many things, and swag ranges from inexpensive to quite expensive, I’m breaking up the initial ideas into two separate lists.

Here are the Basic Swag ideas so far:

– Bookmarks
– Business cards
– Buttons
– Magnets
– Keychains
– Zipper pulls
– Temporary tattoos
– Postcards
– Pens
– Pencils
– Signed bookplates
– Bumper stickers
– Lanyards

Here are some of the Extra Special Swag items people mentioned:

– Tee-shirts
– Mousepads
– Mugs
– Notepads
– Sticky note pads
– Folders
– Locker posters/locker signs
– Lip gloss
– Lotion
– Soundtracks (I’m not sure how this works – I’ll have to ask Steph)

Whew! That’s a whole lot of swag, and I know the list could go on and on from there.

So here’s the question…

If you had to pick your top items from both the Basic Swag list
and the Special Swag list, what would they be?

If you comment below letting me know your favorites from each list, you’ll be entered in the brand-new giveaway I’m launching today where you can WIN SWAG!

Comment about swag, get a chance to win swag. Sounds like a fair trade, right?

Introducing… Bundle o’ Bookmarks!

This is a new giveway I’m going to be hosting periodically throughout each month. Sometimes I’ll tell you it’s an official Bundle o’ Bookmarks day, but other times I’m just going to pick someone who commented in the last week or two to be a spontaneous Bundle winner.

So… what is Bundle o’ Bookmarks? It’s a collection of awesome bookmarks from some of your favorite authors! Here’s the first Bundle o’ Bookmarks swag pack:

DSC04703

It includes bookmarks from:

Alyson Noel (Blue Moon/Evermore)
Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush)
Lindsey Leavitt (Princess for Hire) *signed*
Bree Despain (The Dark Divine)
Lindsay Eland (Scones and Sensibility) *signed*
Stephanie Kuehnert (Ballads of Suburbia)
Stephanie Kuehnert (I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone)
Jennifer Hubbard (The Secret Year)
A.S. King (The Dust of 100 Dogs)
Julie Kagawa (The Iron King) *signed*
Taylor Morris (Total Knockout)
– And, of course, me (a bunch of The Cinderella Society and Great Scavenger Hunt Contest stuff!) *signed*

(And just for fun, Google Friend me and you’ll get an extra entry. If you’re already a Google Friend, note that in your comment and you’ll get an extra entry too.)

Remember… in order to win the Bundle o’ Bookmarks, you have to share what your favorite kinds of swag are from the Basic Swag and Special Swag lists above. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on swag mania!

  1. Oh neat! I love when authors give away swag. It makes the book reading experience much more memorable! Thank you!

  2. I’d say for basic swag:
    Bookmarks
    Keychains
    Pens
    Bumper stickers

    For extra special:
    Tee-shirts
    Notepads
    Sticky note pads

    • I also already follow via google friend connect

  3. So many pretty bookmarks.

Out of what you listed my favorites would have to be:
    - Locker posters
    - T-shirts
    - Sticky notes(!)
    - Pens
    - Buttons
    - and, of course, BOOKMARKS!

    • Oh, and I’m a Google Friend.

  4. I would pick from basic:
    -Bookmarks!
    -Tattoos
    -Pens

    xtra special:
    -Mugs
    -Folders
-Soundtrack! (I’ve only gotten Stephanie’s but I’m obsessed with it! I love it!)- It’s a CD she made with her playlist from the book -actually 2 CDS- and she printed the list on the cover with the title “Soundtrack to the novel BoS By SK.

  5. Yay swag! Swag is fun. I love swag. I’m like a swag hog. Seriously, I have a giant stack of stuff in my dresser. *obsessed*

I will comment on EACH OF THE ITEMS:

    – Bookmarks: ALWAYS fun! Especially if they’er really pretty. But I don’t like ones that are super bendy, like regular pieces of paper. I like the kind you sent me. :D
    – Business cards: Not as fun as bookmarks, but still cool.
    – Buttons: I love buttons.
    – Magnets: The only book magnets I have don’t really stick to anything magnetic so I don’t feel like I can comment on this one. xD
    – Keychains: I don’t have any book key chains either, but I WANT SOME.
    – Zipper pulls: I don’t really know what these are.
    – Temporary tattoos: I never wear them, but they are SUPA FUN.
    – Postcards: I like these! Unless they’re huge. I have postcards that are like half sheets of paper and they are not as festive.
    – Pens: Shiny!
    – Pencils: I have one book pencil but I don’t use it because I’m odd and I don’t want to ruin it, but I like the idea. xD
    – Signed bookplates: I think I’m the only one who doesn’t really care about these. The idea of putting a sticker in my books is just..agh. xD
    – Bumper stickers: I don’t have a bumper to stick these to, but they are fun.
    – Lanyards: Um, what is a book lanyard? o.o

    – Tee-shirts: WIN WIN WIN WIN.
    – Mousepads: I have a laptop so I don’t really care about these either. xD
    – Mugs: Would be more fun if I ever used mugs.
    – Notepads: Win!
    – Sticky note pads: Like POST ITS? I LOVE POST ITS.
    – Folders: I like!
    – Locker posters/locker signs: I don’t put anything in my locker, but I’d probably put one on my wall. xD
    – Lip gloss: I don’t use lip gloss but think it’s a fun idea.
    – Lotion: Yeah I have never seen book lotion.
    – Soundtracks: I’m like the only person who never listens to these, so listen to everyone else. XD

(and I is a google friend. yay friends!)

  17. OOOOOOOOOOOOH SWAG SHINY SWAG ME HEARTS!!!

Okay let’s see, what do I love? And I guess everything isn’t a good enough answer…

As for basic swag, bookmarks always rule. As do buttons and magnets. Those are the things we readers use the most, so they’re usable. Same goes for stickers and bookplates. I’d love to see keychains and temp tattoos too though! Those would be cool!

And extra swag? Now I’m really drooling. Looove the T-shirts, sticky note pads, locker posters. I can totally see myself using those regularly.

What about whiteboards? I always have one on my door (whether at home or away) and they’re fun to leave messages on if you’re away/keep above the phone for quick messages. Plus, environmentally friendly, and they’ll never run out! =D

And obviously, I’m already a Google Friend! =D

  18. I love author swag. From your listing, I love bookmarks and tee-shirts.

Of course, bookmarks are my favorite. I have now gotten in the habit of collecting them. I say the more the merrier.

    Already a google friend ;)

  19. This is such a fun contest!
    My favorite swag is:
    bookmarks
    lanyards
    pens
    tee shirts
    mugs
    soundtracks

I haven’t seen any mugs, but I thin that it is a really cool idea. I think mugs and tee shirts would be my favorite types of swag – followed then by bookmarks. Those types of swag I get the most use out of and I find to be the most fun! :)

  20. Bookmarks, bookplates, buttons, mugs and soundtracts. Thanks for hosting this!! Can’t wait to read the Cinderella Society!! I am becoming a google friend right now!!
    Thanks again!
    Hugs and wishes,
    OfficiallyMRS

  26. Bookmarks and pens are really cool…. I like something I can actually put to use.

On the other I like t – shirts (they are so booky…LOL) and conversation starters, notepads and mugs (LOVE mugs) are cool and mugs also start conversations

  27. My favorite swag:

    Top Special:

    hands down: t-shirts!

  29. Let me see. All of these are so cool (i like collecting swag so it’s hard to pick a few). Anyway here’s my list

    Basic swag:
    – Buttons
    – Magnets
    – Pens
    – Signed bookplates

    Extra swag:
    – Tee-shirts
    – Mugs
    – Notepads (or notebook, for the better ^^)

  30. I love bookmarks. You can never have too many bookmarks! T-shirts are also fantastic and signed bookplates. Gotta love some swag!

  31. Such a great idea, Kay!

Basic Swag: I’m a huge fan of bookmarks, they’re useful and can look good. You can never have too many bookmarks. However, I also love postcards too; quite a lot of books have such beautiful covers, but they can’t be seen when stacked on your shelf. Postcards are a great way to see the beautiful covers, and have them kept safe so they can’t be damaged – not so easy with books when you read them, so easy to accidentally bend the covers.

Extra Special Swag: T-shirts, all the way! Slogan shirts are popular anyway, so having a tee with a funny quote from a book on is awesome – and great promo for the book when someone asks about the tee. Gotta love them!

Already follow you via Google Friend Connect :)
